'Pen Thirai - 2008,' Festival for Films made by Women

'PEN THIRAI-2008,' an International Film Festival for Women Directors, organised by Koodu, a women's organisation and Media Research Centre, Department of Philosophy, Madurai College, Madurai, Tamil Nadu will be held on 10th and 11th of October, 2008. The venue will be Madurai College, Madurai.

The festival will have both Competitive and Non-Competitive Sections


COMPETITIVE SECTION (Three awards will be given for each category).


Categories:-

1. Short Film.

2. Documentary.

3. Single Scene (This is an innovative attempt. You can send a scene taken at one sequence, where time and continuity of the picture should be the same.)


NON-COMPETITIVE SECTION


Short films and documentaries can be sent.


ONLY THE FILMS MADE BY WOMEN DIRECTORS ARE ACCEPTED FOR THE FESTIVAL.


LAST DATE: CDs/DVDs must reach the organisers on or before 25th of September, 2008.

The entries should be accompanied by the synopsis of the film, profile of the director and details about the technicians. Non-English films must have sub-titles in English.


Feature films, documentaries and short films from various languages and different countries, directed by women will be screened at the festival. The festival is open to the public and the screenings will be free of cost.


'Koodu,' is a women's organization with basic objective of inculcating reading habit among women. The forum consists of only women members of all age groups, from various walks of life, working at Government jobs, the private sector and NGOs, lawyers, doctors, homemakers, professors, college students etc. We meet monthly once and review books of literary and social content. We also discuss women issues and their problems.


The forum provides an opportunity to know about women achievers in various fields and strives for gender sensitisation. 'PEN THIRAI-2007,' the first International Film Festival of Women Directors was held at Madurai last year, as part of the programmes to sensitise the public about the issues of women. It was a two day festival and entry was free. The festival was a very successful event and received a large number of audience including students, women and men from various walks of life.
