FESTIVAL OF MUSIC AND DANCE




Next week, the Cochin Film Society is conducting a two-day festival of short films on music and dance. The 'Festival of Music and Dance,' is being organised in association with the Films Division of India. Eleven films from the collection of the Films Division will be screened at Kerala Fine Arts Hall in Ernakulam. The festival will be inaugurated by the reputed film maker Mohan. Anupama Mohan, the well-known Kuchipudi dancer, will be the chief guest. Sudha Namboothiri, Media Officer, Press Information Bureau, will offer felicitations and Film Society president C.S.Jayaram will preside over the inaugural ceremony to be held at 5.30 on August 13 at the Fine Arts Hall.


The inaugural function will be followed by the screening of seven films, starting with 'Kuchipudi Dance,’a 36 minutes film produced by the Government of Andhra Pradesh. Script and direction are by T.A.Abraham. It will be followed by 'Tala Vadya Mridang,’ (11 min / Direction - Shyam Benegal), ‘Sruti and Graces in Indian Music,’ (14 min / Direction – Shyam Benegal), ‘Yamini Krishnamurti,’ (20 min / Direction – Balwant Gargi), ‘Ustad Alla Rakha,’ (12 min / Direction – Shekhar Nair), ‘Om Nama Sivaya,’ (26 min / Direction – Loksen Lalvani / Dance - Mallika Sarabhai) and ‘Chinna Moulana,’ (25 min / Direction – V. Packirisamy).

The festival will continue into the next day, August 14, withfour films being screened. These include, Odissi Dance,’ (20 min / Direction – Ghanshyam Mohapatra), ‘Bharatha Natyam,’ (12 min / Direction – Jagat Murari), 'Pandit Bhimsen Joshi,’ (73 min / Direction – Gulzar) and ‘Forever A Legend – A Film on M.S.Subbulakshmi,’ (109 min / Direction – V. Rajagopal).

Admission to the festival is open to all.
